Science of Life

Ayurveda is made up of two words Ayu (life) and Veda (science). It is an ancient Indian system of medicine which dates back to 2500 B.C. The film covers the basic philosophy and oriented methodology for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Basic concepts of Panchamahabhoot, Tridosa, Sapta dhatu and Trimala, responsible for various functions as well as sustenance of the human body, besides preservation and promotion of health, prevention of diseases and personal hygiene have also been included. Panchakarma commonly known as purificatory therapy has also been covered in the film.

Resurgence

The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha, an apex body of the Government of India is conducting research for the development of Ayurveda and Siddha systems of medicine for the last 30 years. Its research activities include clinical research, drug research and literary research, which has been conducted at 36 research institutes located in different parts of the country. This film highlights the research activities of the Council in the above fields as well as its achievements.

Guggulu - A Versatile Healer

Guggulu, the oleo-gum resin obtained from the plant Commiphora wightii is a widely used drug of Ayurveda for the treatment of rheumatism and hypocholestromia etc. On account of excessive demand, emphasis is laid on its cultivation. The film includes various aspects related to the cultivation of this versatile healer including methods of tapping of oleo-gum resin, processing, as well as information on the research work conducted by the Council.

Shilajeet - The Eternal Panacea

Shilajeet, a black gummy exudation from the rocks of mountains is being used extensively in Ayurveda for the treatment of various diseases. Its use as a Rasayana (rejuvinator) is very common. The film covers various aspects of Shilajeet related to its origin and methods of purification etc.

Panchakarma

Panchakarma is one of the unique therapeutic procedures in Ayurveda advocated for the radical elimination of disease- causing factors and to maintain the equilibrium of Dosas. The chances of recurrence of the diseases are very rare in patients who have undergone Panchakarma treatment. In this film all the Pancha (five) Karma (methods) viz. emesis, purgation, oil enema, decoction enema and insufflation alongwith Kerala specialities like Pindasveda, Pizhichil, Sirobasti, Sirodhara and Sirolepana have been shown in detail.
