About the Institute:

 

Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Vijayawada is a unit of Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of Ayush, Govt.of India. This Institute was established on 01-05-1972. The Out Patient Department was started in 1980 and 10 bedded In Patient Department in 1981.  At present this Institute is engaged in Clinical Research on various diseases and providing Ayurvedic treatment to the general public. Institute is equipped with 10 bedded hospital, Panchakarma units for male and female separately, Laboratory for Bio-chemical and Pathological investigations, X-ray unit, Mini pharmacy for preparation of oils, ointments, kashayas etc to meet the requirement of Institute.

Mandate:

Ø  Clinical Research in Skin Diseases and Vector Borne Diseases

Activities:

Ø  Health care services through Out-Patient Department (OPD) and In-Patient Departments (IPDs)

Ø  Tribal Health Care Research

Ø  Special Clinics for Geriatric Health Care

Ø  Outreach Activities such as Tribal Health Care Research Program,  Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Program (S.C.S.P)  Swasthya Raksha Programme etc.

Achievements:

Initially this Institute had undertaken the projects like Health Care Research, Medico-Ethno Botanical Research projects. Under Health Care Research Programme, Survey oriented health care research programme was conducted in the Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh; under Medico-Ethno Botanical Research programme, surveys conducted in the entire Andhra Pradesh  on pilot scale, special surveys made in Bastar District of Madhya Pradesh, Phulbani and Koraput Districts of Orissa.

Under Clinical Research this Institute has taken up the clinical studies on Filaria, Bronchial Asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Duodenal Ulcer, Leucorrhoea, Hypertension, Hyperacidity, Iron deficiency Anemia, Dyslipidemia, Chronic Bronchitis, Diabetes Mellitus, Psoriasis etc.

Apart from the above, Institute has prepared various coded drugs of CCRAS viz Ayush QOL-2C, Ayush Manas, Ayush Rasayan etc in collaboration with Laila impex and IMIS pharmaceuticals, Vijayawada. Co-ordinated the collaborative project with Institute of Applied Dermatology, Kasrgud, Kerala for the project “Pilot study on Morbidity control of Lymphatic Filariasis using self care Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy in two endemic districts Alleppey (Kerala) and Gulbarga (Karnataka)”. Nodal Institute for the project entitled “Documentation of reported episodes of prevention/treatment of vector Borne/infectious diseases of Ayurveda & Siddha”.

Ongoing Research Projects:

Studies on Obesity, Osteoporosis, Urolithiasis, Filariasis, Anemia, Eczema and Sciatica are to be initiated.

Apart from Clinical Research, Tribal Health Care Research Programme of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States under Tribal Sub-plan, Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme under Scheduled Caste Sub-plan, Swasthya Rakshan Programme through Mobile Health Services and Collaborative studies with Laila impex and IMIS pharmaceuticals for pharmaceutical drug development of CCRAS coded drugs are going on.

Seminars/ Workshops/camps:

National Workshop on Ayurvedic Drug Development for Vector Borne Disease was organized in March 2010. Conducted National Campaigns on Ksharasutra, Geriatric Care, Anemia, Chronic Disorders and Mother & Child Health Care at five places in Andhra Pradesh. Organized Hindi workshop for the staff of Central Govt. Institutes in Vijayawada. Participated in Arogya melas, Godavari pushkaras, Krishna pushkaras, kalachakra festival, Vizag fest etc and conducted many medical camps and health awareness programmes.

Nearly 5.2 lakhs patients were treated at OPD level and 2500 patients were treated at IPD level. The scientists of this institute has published nearly 150 research papers in various National and International journals and hundreds of guest lectures/ presentations were delivered on various scientific forums/ seminars/ workshops.
