About Us
The Regional Research Centre of Ayurveda (RRCA), Port Blair previously known as Ayurveda Tribal Health Care Research Project [ATHCRP] was established in the year 1984 at Malacca, Car Nicobar of A&N Islands. Unfortunately, this Research Centre along with all the records had submerged in the sea during the Earthquake and Tsunami on 26th December 2004. Thereafter this project was shifted from Car Nicobar to 30 bedded AYUSH Hospital, Atlanta Point, Port Blair on 14th February 2005 and henceforth it functioned there up to January 2015. Presently, this Unit is functioning in Type-II Quarter at Junglighat, Port Blair and providing Ayurvedic treatment to Tribal and general population of these Islands. The Institute has been renamed as Regional Ayurveda Research Institute with reference to the Letter vide. F.No.12-39/2015-CCRAS/Estt.4788, on 22nd Dec 2020.
The aims and objectives of this project are to study the living condition of tribal people, Collection of folk medicines used by them, explore the Availability of medicinal plants of the area, propagate the knowledge about hygiene and prevention of disease, provide medical aid at their door steps and to collect the information related to health statistics, dietetic habits, Nature and frequency of prevalent diseases etc.

Activities and Achievements:
Clinical Research: This unit had conducted clinical studies on Malaria, Hypertension and Bronchial Asthama.
Tribal Health Care Survey: Under this project 1,59,785 populations of different villages has been covered and Ayurvedic treatment has been provided to 1,22,297 patients through OPD and Medical Camps. Whereas 492 folk claims has been also collected from various tribes and local traditional practitioners.
Research Projects undergoing:
The research project - Medico-botanical survey of Andaman & Nicobar Islands (selected areas) has been completed. Under this project survey of South Andaman, Little Andaman, Havelock, Baratang forest division were conducted and 160 Folk claims collected. Whereas under the Tribal Health Care Research project 5419 tribal population has been covered and 21 Folk claims collected.
