About the Institute

The Institute was started on 21st June, 1971 and has over the years grown tremendously in terms of infrastructural facilitates and the number of patients who are being treated, both in OPD and IPD. 

The Institute has a Pharmacy which not only meets the requirements of the Institute but also provides medicines to other Institutes/ Units. The Quality Control laboratory of the Institute ensures that the medicines proposed in the Pharmacy are as per prescribed standards. The Bio-chemistry and Pathology Lab performs the tests for patients of OPD and IPD and research subjects. The Pharmacology Department comprising of Animal House and a Laboratory has been conducting toxicity and safety studies of new Ayurvedic drugs.

Current activities:

1.     Health care services through Out–Patient Department (OPD) and In-Patient Departments (IPD).  

2.     Clinical Research:

  i.       IMR Projects:

a)    Clinical evaluation of Prasaranyadi Kwatha and Dhanwantharam taila in the management of  Cervical Spondylosis (Greevagraha).

b)    Comparative Clinical study to find the efficacy of Sodhana and Samana therapy in the management of Gridhrasi (Sciatica).

c)    Clinical evaluation of Panchakarma related procedures in the management of Sandhivata (Osteoarthritis Knee).

d)    Clinical evaluation of the efficacy of Virataradi kashayam and Chandraprabha vati  in the management of Mutrasmari (Urolithiasis).

e)    Evaluation of the effect of Abhyanga and Shastikasali pindasweda with some oral Ayurvedic drugs in functional improvement of Hemiplegia patients, due to Cerebral Thrombosis (Ischaemia).

f)     Evaluation of the efficacy of Abhyanga, Nasya and Sirovasti with Mashadi taila in the functional improvement of Pakshavadha (Hemiplegia).

  ii.       RFD Projects:

a)    Evaluation of Shirodhara with Amalaki  Kwatha in the patient of Anxiety Neurosis (Hamilton’s Anxiety Scale).

b)    Evaluation of the effect of Jambeera pinda sweda in Cervical Spondylosis w.r.t. clinical symptomatology.

c)    Comparative observation on changes in Serum Lipid Profile in patients undergoing Snehana with pure ghee in one group and Mahatiktak ghrita in other group.

d)    Evaluation of the effect of Upanaha treatment with Vachadi upanaha churna in osteoarthritis (OA knee) w. r. t. pain and stiffness of joints.

e)    Evaluation of changes in Serum electrolyte level (Na, K etc.) after Virechana karma with Eranda Taila.

f)    Effect of Sankara Sweda with Kolakulathadi churna heated in Dhanyamla in Rheumatoid Arthritis with pain and stiffness.

1.     Projects on Drug Standardization, Pharmaceutical Research and Chemistry:

a)    Isolation of marker compounds of some selected medicinal plants.

b)    Preparation of Nimbatiktam 200mg. capsules.

2.     Pharmacology/Biochemistry Research:

a)    Evaluation of Antidiabetic Activity of Ficus gibbosa Blume (Leaves and Stem bark) extracts in Streptozotocin – Nicotinamide induced Diabetes in experimental animals.

b)    Evaluation of Hypolipidemic Activity of Cardiospermum halicacabum Linn leaf in experimental animal.

3.     Other activities:

a)     Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme under Scheduled castes Sub Plan (SCSP).

b)     Swasthya Rakshan Programme (SRP).

c)     Pharmaco-vigilance Programme for Ayurveda and Siddha Medicines.

d)     Geriatric Health Care Research through Ayurveda at OPD level.

Achievements:

·     NARIP, Cheruthuruthy achieved 87.57% bed occupancy and institute placed 1st position out of 30 peripheral institutes of CCRAS based on bed occupancy.

·      This institute placed 1st position out of 30 peripheral institutes of CCRAS based on increased number of patients in Geriatric OPD (22051)

·      Institute activities published in news papers Like Mathrubhumi, Malayala Manorama & other media.

·      22 programs were conducted  under the SCSP programme.

·      17 programs were conducted under SRP programme.

·      Started free YOGA CLASS for the patients, Bystanders, all staff members, and public.

·      Organized APC Industry Interactive Workshop for Southern Region on 24 January 2016.

·      Participated in Global Ayurveda Fest & Arogya Expo sponsored by Ministry of AYUSH held on 31-1-16 to 04-2-2016 at Kozhikode, Kerala.

·      Rs  3712815/- generated in 2015-2016.

·      Increase in the number of participation in seminars by the Officers of the Institute (46.No.).

·      Achieved 96.12% of Bed occupancy.

·      This institute started a number of specialty OPD such as geriatric OPD, Skin OPD, Anorectal OPD, Psychiatric OPD, Physiotherapy etc..

·      17 No. of research papers were published.

·      34 No. of paper presentations were made by the officers and Consultants of the Institute.

·      270 No. of internees under gone internship training.
