Prof.(Dr.) Mruthyumjaya Rao Meda is currently serving as the Director (Institute) at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Dr.Meda MRaocompleted his B.A.M.S. from A.P. University of Health Sciences in 1993 and later earned his M.S. (Ay.) in ShalyaTantra from Banaras Hindu University in 1996. He was awarded a Ph.D. in Ayurveda from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune, in 2016.
With over 29 years of extensive research and administrative experience, Prof.(Dr.)MedaM Rao has held several key positions across various CCRAS institutes viz- Hyderabad, New Delhi, Patiala, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar. He also served as Professor, Department of ShalyaTantra, AIIA, New Delhi and holdthe post of MS, AIIA, New Delhi.
Prof.(Dr.)Meda M Rao’s research focus includes Ksharasutra therapy, particularly in the management of Bhagandara (Fistula-in-ano) and Parikartika (Fissure-in-ano). His clinical expertise in Ayurveda, particularly in ShalyaTantra, is complemented by his contribution to the development of standard operating procedures for Ayurvedic practices.
In addition to his research and administrative roles, Prof.(Dr.)MedaM Raohas organized numerous national seminars and workshops, particularly focusing on Ksharasutra therapy and other parasurgical procedures in Ayurveda. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including Gold Medals for best paper presentations at international seminars.
Prof.(Dr.)Meda has authored 110 scientific papers published in reputed national and international journals, and he has contributed to 7 books and research compendia. He has also been actively involved in the preservation and publication of rare medical manuscripts and the development of medico-historical museums.
