About Institute
Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Research Centre for Ayurveda was established on 1st February 1965 under the Central Council for Ayurvedic Research, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India. The Unit was taken over by the Central Council for Research in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, New Delhi on 1st August, 1971. Then it was taken over by the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha on 7th January, 1979 and it was upgraded as a Research Centre in June 1985. This Research Centre is situated in the second floor of Voluntary Health Service (VHS), from the generous grants given by Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi, an Allopathic physician. The Lakshmipathi Block was built and it stands as a lasting legacy in his memory. The Institute was renamed as Dr. Achanta Lakshmipathi Regional Ayurveda Research Institute with reference to the Letter vide. F.No.12-39/2015-CCRAS/Estt.4788, on 22nd Dec 2020. A separate room in the O.P.D block is given for Ayurvedic O.P functioning at ground floor.
Mandate
The institute is entrusted with mandate of Clinical Research on life-style related and non-communicable diseases
Activities and achievements
This Institute has been conducting clinical trials on different disease conditions like Malaria, COVID-19, Type II Diabetes Mellitus, Obesity and Lipid Disorders, Mental Retardation, Eczema, Acne etc. Several literary works has also been completed by the institute. The Institute is providing Health care services through General OPD, specialty OPD for Flu like illness every day and Geriatric specialty OPD on every Tuesday from 10 am to 1pm. The Institute is also running Marma OPD on all Wednesdays. Apart from this the institute is providing health care facilities through outreach activities like Tribal Health Care Research Project (THCRP) and Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (AMHCP-SCSP). The institute has a wide collection of library books which includes manuscripts transferred from Saraswathi Mandal Library, Thanjavur.
