Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Vijayawada is one of the peripheral Institutes of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences functioning under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, New Delhi. This Institute was established as Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda) on 01-05-1972 by the amalgamation of the Mobile Clinical Research Unit of Razole and the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit functioning at Hyderabad. This institute is currently running an NABH accredited Hospital Section with OPD, IPD, X-ray unit, and Panchakarma units. The Clinical Laboratory of the institute is NABL-certified. The mandate for RARI is Clinical research on Skin diseases and Vector borne diseases.
Institute Achievements:
This Institute Completed 29 Clinical Research Projects and Completed Ethno-Medical- Botanical Surveys in the entire state of Andhra Pradesh, and part of Madhya Pradesh, and Odissa. This institute published 179 research publications in national and international journals and presented 138 research papers in national international seminars. Research officers/staff participated in overall 248 workshops/ seminars/ conferences and organised 49 workshops and seminars, around 87 Mega Medical camps/Arogya Melas. Institute officers delivered 27 radio talks and 5 television talks so far. Institute is associated with Laila impex manufactures and exporters of plant extracts; and Imis Pharmaceuticals, Vijayawada for the formulation development and preparation of coded formulations for CCRAS clinical studies. This institute is providing clinical training to Ayurveda internees of Dr. NRS Government Ayurveda College, Vijayawada.

Accreditation details
RARI Vijayawada holds a prestigious NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) accreditation certificate from May 2023, which has been awarded by the Quality Council of India. This certification signifies that the hospital has met stringent quality and patient care standards, demonstrating its commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare services.
The institute has a clinical laboratory that has been NABL (entry-level) certified from March-2024.

OPD
The Outpatient Department (OPD) at RARI Vijayawada commenced its services in 1980. Presently, it caters to an average of 200 patients daily across various OPD categories, including General OPD, Geriatric OPD, and Marma OPD. Between 1980 and 2023, RARI has extended OPD services to a total of 381,961 male patients and 433,112 female patients.
IPD
The Inpatient Department (IPD) at RARI Vijayawada was established with a 10-bed capacity in 1981. In 2021, the hospital underwent an upgrade, increasing its capacity to 25 beds.Since its inception, a total of 2,028 male patients and 3,597 female patients have received treatment through the inpatient services provided by the institute.
PANCHAKARMA
At RARI Vijayawada, there are separate Panchakarma Procedure theaters for both male and female patients. These theaters are operated by efficient staff who provide authentic Ayurveda Panchakarma treatments to the patients.
MEDICAL LABORATORY
The Institute’s Medical Laboratory WING is dedicated to serving the public by providing affordable hematology and biochemistry investigations. So that people can access important medical tests related to blood and biochemical parameters without facing high costs, ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to a broader range of individuals.
X RAY
The Institute also avails the benefit of X-ray facility for OPD and IPD service. CGHS rates are charged for reports.

Outreach Programs
Tribal Health Care Research Project under Tribal Sub-Plan
The Tribal Health Care Research Programme (THCRP) under Tribal Sub-Planwas started in RARI, Vijayawada in November 2014 and continues to serve tribal communities in Andhra Pradesh. The study covered 114 villages in Andhra Pradesh and 17 villages in Telangana, surveying 79,540 people, treating 46,859 patients, and documenting 168 traditional (folk) medicinal claims. Under the Annual action plan 2025-26, the documentation of ethno- dietary practices indigenous to India and documentation of plants, metals, minerals, animal products and other materials used in various indigenous religious practices and rituals across India is conducted. The main objectives includes to systemically document the indigenous ethno-dietary practices in diverse geographical areas and communities across India. To assess the understanding and perception of the community about the relevance and health benefits of indigenous ethno-dietary practices and to critically analyse the variation in indigenous religious practices and rituals across different states, zones, regions, cultures, and communities within India. Districts Alluri Sitarama Raju and East Godavari were covered. Awareness classes have been delivered in each village and IEC material distribution is conducted in these areas.

Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan has been initiated for the first time in this institute since November, 2015 with the aims and objectives of studying the demographic trends in health and diseases, and for catering health care services to the SC people of Andhra Pradesh. The study of 64 village was completed in Andhra Pradesh, approximate 80,020 Populationsurveyed and, provided treatment for 46,606 patients. Awareness classes have been delivered in each village. Medicals camps to be conducted, diagnostics will provide for Hemoglobin percentage, Random blood sugar test, awareness class will be arranged for scheduled cast population.

Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Vijayawada was established as Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda), in 1972 by the amalgamation of Mobile Clinical Research Unit of Razole and Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit functioning at Hyderabad. The Out Patient Department was started in 1980 and 10 bedded In-Patient Department in 1981. The Center was upgraded as Regional Research Institute (Ay.) in 1999, as per re-organization of Council’s units. This Institute was upgraded as National Ayurveda Research Institute for Vector Borne Diseases in 2009 and again renamed as Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Skin Disorders, Vijayawada in 2016. Later in 2020, this institute was re-named as Regional Ayurveda Research Institute. The current IPD bed strength is 25. The mandate of the institute is clinical research in skin diseases and vector borne diseases.
