About Us
The Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI) , Vijayawada is one of the peripheral institutes of CCRAS under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, New Delhi. This institute has a notable history that began in 1972 when it was initially established as a Regional Research Center (Ayurveda). This establishment was the result of merging two entities: the Mobile Clinical Research Unit in Razole and the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit in Hyderabad.
Over the years, the institute expanded its services. In 1980, it introduced an Outpatient Department (OPD) to provide medical services to patients. In 1981, it further developed its capabilities by establishing a 10-bed Inpatient Department (IPD) to accommodate patients requiring more intensive care.
In 1999, following a reorganization of the Council’s units, the institute was upgraded and renamed as the Regional Research Institute (Ayurveda). However, its research focus shifted in 2009 when it was renamed the National Ayurveda Research Institute for Vector Borne Diseases, reflecting its research mandate at the time. Subsequently, in 2016, it was renamed again, this time as the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Skin Diseases, aligning with its research focus.
The institute’s physical infrastructure received a significant boost in 2018 with the inauguration of a new building by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of AYUSH, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik. This modern facility supports research in vector-borne diseases and skin diseases.
In addition to its research activities, the institute provides various services to the public. These include an Outpatient Department (OPD) for consultations, an Inpatient Department (IPD) for more extended stays and treatments, a laboratory for diagnostic tests, a pharmacy for dispensing medications, an X-ray facility for imaging services, and a Panchakarma unit, which offers Ayurvedic therapies.
RARI, Vijayawada, has a rich history of evolution from a research center to an institute specializing in research related to vector-borne and skin diseases. It serves the public by offering a range of healthcare services while contributing to scientific research in the field of Ayurveda.
Vision
To provide continuous healthcare for all by developing scientific evidence on ayurvedic principles, drugs and therapies.
Mission
To conduct clinical research in various fields of ayurveda conforming to scientific and ethical standards.
To improve the quality of healthcare services by integrating ancient ayurvedic wisdom with scientific innovations
