He has completed his Ph.D. in Botany from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1995. He started his career at CSIR-RRL, Jammu in 1995 as Senior Project Fellow.
He joined Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush in the year June, 1998 as Assistant Research Officer (Pharmacognosy) at CARI, Kolkata and undertook work on herbal drug standardization.
He was promoted to Research Officer (Pharmacognosy) at CCRAS Hqrs. in 2004. In 2015 he was promoted to Assistant Director (Pharmacognosy) at CCRAS Hqrs., where his research was focused on herbal drug standardization and monitoring of IMR projects as a nodal officer.
He has served to Assistant Director In-charge at CARI, Kolkata from April, 2022 to February, 2023. During this tenure he was responsible for Monitoring of Complete Administration of the Institute, and provided guidance for clinical and preclinical projects of the Institute
Research specialization (Major scientific fields of interest):
- Development of standard operating procedures (SOP) and Pharmacopoeial standards of Ayurvedic single and compound formulations.
- Development of Analytical methods for Ayurveda drugs Quality control by using modern Instruments/equipments and updating the present data available.
- Powder drug analysis of Medicinal Plants
- Development of safe, effective, affordable Ayurvedic drugs based on strengths of Ayurveda.
He worked as a coordinator in the NRDR project sanctioned by NMPB, New Delhi. New Project such as Miyawaki method and DNA Bar-coding of Ayurvedic medicines has been started at different Institutes of CCRAS and in collaborative mode with JNU, ICAR etc under his supervision. He has coordinated Botanical standardization of 12 coded formulations.
He has guided two Ph.D. students and handled more than 50 nos. IMR projects as PI/Nodal Officer.
He has published more than 130 research papers in International / National Journals, more than 15 Book Chapters in National/ International Books and more than 25 Books as editor/associate editors viz. Indian Herbal Pharmacopoeia in association with RRL Jammu and IDMA Mumbai, CTD Monographs, Herbal Wealth of Uttrakhand etc.
He has participated in various training programmes viz NABL Assessors’ Training on ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 & ISO 17034:2016, NABL ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ISO/IEC 17025:2005, ISO 17034:2016, Administrative and financial for AYUSH officials etc. Further, he has organized NABH, NABL trainings and CME Programmes etc. He organized more than 30 Seminar/ Conference/ Workshop/ Webinars, and attended more than 70 Seminar/Workshop.
Under his guidance JDRAS and JRAS got recognition and enlisted under UGC-CARE List
He represented Ministry of AYUSH at Global level during four International visits: i. Santiago-USA, ii. Moscow- Russia, Kathmandu-NEPAL and Bari-Italy.
Honors & Awards
- Received AYUSH Award of CCRAS 2018 for Best Research Paper Award for Drug Research In the field of Ayurveda.
- Received Fellowship Award, 2014 from Society of Recent development in Agriculture.
- Received Scientist of The Year Award 2012.
- Received Talented Scientist Award for contribution in the field of Research in Ayurvedic and Herbal products.
- Received Award of Honor from Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.
Received “Honorary Fellow” for the year 2022 by the Society for Horticultural Research and Development.
