Dr. Bhagwan Sahai Sharma currently serves as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) and Drug Development cell Coordinator at the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. He has completed his M.D. in Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana from Rajasthan University, Jaipur.
He began his career as a Production manager at PAB Pharmaceuticals, Sarna Doongar, Jaipur, Rajasthan. He also has academic experience as Faculty, Dept. of Rasa Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana at Murari Lal Rasiwasia Ayurvedic College, Charkhi Dadri in Haryana. He began his career as a researcher in Ayurveda in 2006 and served as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the peripheral unit of CCRAS, i.e., Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Patiala.
He has 18 years of professional experience as a Researcher in Ayurveda. He has been pivotal in developing new drugs and formulations, taking leads from Ayurvedic literature or Local Health Traditions following a systematic scientific approach, including standardization, preclinical safety/toxicity studies, and /or biological activity and clinical study as required.
He has considerable experience in monitoring & supervising to ensure the authenticity of most of the technical details of Ayurvedic formulations & their ingredients. He is also associated with the preparation & development of scientific protocols for clinical evaluation of Ayurveda medicines. He has completed various IMR/Collaborative Clinical and Pharmaceutical Research projects as Nodal Officer in various disease conditions, viz., Eczema, Bronchial Asthma, Obesity, Dyslipidaemia, and lumbar disc herniation. He also served as nodal officer in various outreach programs of the Council, like the Tribal Health Care Research Programme, Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme, Swasthya Rakshan Programme, Azadi ka Amrita Mahotsava campaign, etc. He has coordinated the supply of medicines in programs such as Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and coordinated medicines distribution for the Covid-19 related projects. He has published more than 39 research papers in various journals and contributed to more than 65 books /Technical reports/monographs/compendiums.
