Dr Chris Antony works as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage, Hyderabad, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, New Delhi. Her roles and responsibilities include coordinating IMR/EMR/Collaborative projects, reviewing proposals and articles of CCRAS programmes and journals of CCRAS, and being in charge of the NIIMH Medico-historical Museum and OPD and public health outreach activities.
Dr. Chris Antony is a fervent researcher in the field of Ayurveda, especially in the specialty of Ayurvedic Pediatrics. She graduated with a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery from Pankajakasthuri Ayurveda Medical College Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, in 2009 and completed her Postgraduation in Kaumarabhritya from Government Ayurveda College Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in 2014. Her post-graduate dissertation work was on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children, and she is interested in research in Developmental Paediatrics and neonatal care through Ayurveda, Fundamental research in Ayurveda, Pediatric neurology and Immunology. She underwent training in ‘eCourse on Clinical Research Methods’ in 2021 and a short-term course on ‘Maternal Infant and Young Child and Adolescent Nutrition’ from October 2023 to February 2024, both from the Indian Institute of Public Health, New Delhi. She has also undergone training in ‘Research Proposal writing’ at IIPH New Delhi and ‘Publication Ethics’ from SPPU Pune. She also works as a reviewer for four journals of National and International repute. She also has experience in taking responsibilities like member of the Women’s grievance redressal committee, Chairman of the verification committee, Hospital in-charge, Museum in-charge, member of the NABH Core Committee at RARI Mandi, GeM consignee at NIIMH, Hyderabad, etc.
She started her career as a Lecturer in Kaumarabhritya at Govt. Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram (on contract-basis) and Govt. Ayurveda College, Trippunithura, Kerala (on deputation), and Medical Officer in Ayurveda in the Kerala ISM Department. She joined the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, as Research Officer (Ayurveda) under CCRAS in January 2018. She has six and half years of research experience in the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India. She has 11 research papers to her credit and was part of 15 research projects of CCRAS. She coordinated the surveys and IMR projects on women and child health in the marginalized sections of the population as Principal Investigator for two years at RARI Mandi. She also worked as Principal Investigator in the Randomised placebo-controlled double-blind clinical trial in Sub-clinical Hypothyroidism and Co-investigator in various projects like the Ayush D Collaborative project in Type II Diabetes mellitus, projects on Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, CoViD-19, Bronchial Asthma, Iron Deficiency Anemia, Nutritional Anemia in women, Epidemiological studies in Women and Children of Scheduled Castes, Primary Dysmenorrhoea, Ayush Lifestyle Advocacies in Women, Non-communicable Diseases in Women, Post-menopausal Syndrome and Osteoarthritis. She has also coordinated the Jan Andolan programs of the GoI in the peripheral institutes of CCRAS like the Poshan Maah 2021, Poshan Maah 2023, International Day of Yoga 2021 & 2024, Swacchata Pakhwada 2021, International Year of Millets 2023, Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav 2.0, Ayurveda Day celebrations, etc. She received the ISSN International Research Vibhushan Award 2021 in Kaumarabhritya-Ayurvedic Paediatrics for her article on Kumaragara and Rakshakarma in Pediatrics. She also received the Pratham Puraskar for her performance in Hindi Karyashalas at RARI Mandi. She also contributes articles and is part of the Editorial Board of Hindi Patrika Pravah of CCRAS. She has also prepared two technical reports at RARI, Mandi.
Presently, she is Co-Principal Investigator in the CCRAS-Ayush ICMR-AIIMS Bibinagar Collaborative Project on Nutritional Anemia in Women of Reproductive Age and Co-Investigator in the medico-historical project SAHI (Showcase of Ayurveda Historical Imprints through Tangible and Intangible evidence).
