Dr. Deepa Makhija serves as Assistant Director (Ay.) at the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. She holds postgraduate and doctoral qualifications in Ayurveda, along with a postgraduate degree in Sanskrit. Since joining CCRAS in 2005, she has contributed to fundamental and clinical research, authored/co-authored over 40 research publications in peer-reviewed, nationally and internationally indexed journals, and contributed to the development of clinical research protocols, technical reports and monographs.
Since 2021, she has played a key leadership role in the Council’s Research-Oriented Public Health Care Programmes, coordinating more than 60 public health research projects reaching over 28 lakh people. Her work focuses on promoting health and well-being through traditional medicine-based healthcare, health awareness, and documentation of traditional healthcare practices among underserved rural and marginalized communities in geographically challenging terrains, particularly in North-Eastern India, with an emphasis on preventive and health-promotive approaches.
