Dr. G. Nartunai is working as Assistant Director (Pharmacognosy) and also Programme officer for Medicinal Plant Research Section, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), New Delhi, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India.

Dr. G.Nartunai completed his M. Pharmacy (Pharmacognosy) from Madras Medical College, Chennai, and Ph.D., from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He started his career as Pharmacist in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, India in the year 1994. During his service as  Pharmacist, he developed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for several medicinal preparations and pharmacy practical classes for under graduate students of medicine and pharmacy in writing and handling of prescriptions. Actively contributed and delivered lectures in the workshops related to Drug Collection, Storage and Distribution titled on “Rational Use of Drugs, Antiseptics and Disinfectants”.

He also worked as Tutor at Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur, in the department of Pharmacy and also shouldered additional responsibility for renewal of recognition for conducting the course under Pharmacy Council of India.

In 2009, he joined the CCRAS as Research Officer (Pharmacognosy) at Captain Srinivasa Murthy Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CSMCARI), Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. His research focused on developing quality standards for medicinal plants used in Ayurveda. Has vast experience in the area of Pharmacognosy, developed monographs for Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India and Quality Standards of Indian Medicinal Plants by ICMR, New Delhi. As Principal Investigator/Co-investigator he has successfully completed various projects under Intra Mural and Extra Mural Research schemes. He worked for NABL accreditation of department of Pharmacognosy and providing testing services of excellence in the field of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) drugs. He has around 25 publications in reputed national and international journals. Authored for a chapter on Plectranthus vettiveroides (Jacob) N.P. Singh & B.D.Sharma in the book titled on “Medicinal Plants in India: Importance and Cultivation (Volume-III) and Editor and Author for 9 chapters in the book on “Medicinal Plants in India: Importance and Cultivation (Volume-IV). He delivered several lectures and imparted practical training on Standardization of ASU drugs and The Guidelines for Development of Pharmacopoeial Monographs for Herbal Formulations. He is serving as life member in official forums like The Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association and Society for Minor Fruits, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants. He has been recognized as Ph.D. guide at University of Madras.
