Dr. Gurucharan Bhuyan is the Assistant Director (Ayurveda) and Head of the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Itanagar, operating under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, New Delhi. In his role, he oversees both technical and administrative operations of the institute.
Dr. Bhuyan earned his BAMS degree from Utkal University, Odisha, his MD(Ay) from the University of Calcutta, and his Ph.D. (Ay) from Gujarat Ayurved University. He began his career as an Assistant Professor of Roga Nidan at Shri J.G. Co-operative Society’s Ayurvedic Medical College in Ghata Prabha, affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, from 2000 to 2005.
In 2006, Dr. Bhuyan joined the CCRAS as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the Regional Research Institute in Vijayawada, where he worked for two years. From 2008 to 2015, he was stationed at CCRAS Headquarters as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) and Nodal Officer for the Clinical Research Unit, and later from December 2015 to July 2023, he served at CARI, Bhubaneswar in the same role. Throughout his career, he has led numerous clinical and outreach programs as Principal Investigator and has been responsible for technical management as well.
Dr. Bhuyan has played a significant role in IMR/EMR/Collaborative Research projects as a Nodal Officer, coordinating over 40 clinical projects. He has participated in various training programs, including those by NABH, NABL, ICMR, IIPH, DST,IIPA, ASCI etc.
With more than 50 research papers published in international and national journals, and one book chapter to his name, Dr. Bhuyan has also presented five scientific papers at international/national seminars and conferences. He has organized over ten seminars, conferences, workshops, and webinars and has attended more than 60 such events.
He serves as a reviewer for over two national journals and is a member of the editorial boards of more than 15 journals, news bulletins and monographs. Dr. Bhuyan supervises five Ph.D. (Ay) students and holds life memberships in several professional associations, including the Pharmacological Society of India, the Indian Science Congress, and All India Ayurvedic Congress.
