Dr. Krishna Rao S is presently working as a Research Officer (Ay) at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Dr. Rao, graduated as the topper in his B.A.M.S. degree from Ayurveda College Coimbatore in 2008 and completing his M.D. (Ay.) in Kayachikitsa from Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram in 2012.
Over more than eight years of extensive research experience across various CCRAS institutes in Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Patna, Bihar, National Ayurveda Research Institute, Cheruthuruthy (Thrissur), and Central Ayurveda Research Institute Bhubaneswar, Dr. Rao has authored 19 research publications and co-authored a technical book MARMA CHIKITSA -Basic Tenets in Ayurveda and Therapeutic Approaches. His clinical expertise in Ayurvedic orthopedic management is complemented by five years of teaching experience as an Assistant Professor at Pankajakasthuri Ayurveda Medical College, where he managed both outpatient and inpatient departments.
Dr. Rao is actively involved as an investigator in several collaborative research projects with prestigious institutes such as AIIMS Bhubaneswar, ICMR-RMRC Bhubaneswar, and ICAR-CIFA. His research focus extends to the Tribal Health Research Programme and general health screening initiatives, particularly targeting tuberculosis, anemia, hemoglobinopathies, and malnutrition. Additionally, Dr. Rao is investigating the impact of Ayurveda interventions on improving health outcomes among students of Ekalavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), which operate under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Dr. Rao’s areas of interest include Panchakarma, neuro-degenerative diseases, musculoskeletal disorders, hepatobiliary disorders, and Marma therapy. He has actively participated in numerous national and international seminars and conferences, presenting his research and contributing to the advancement of Ayurvedic science. Recognized for his excellence, he received the Jeevaka Award for Excellence in Ayurvedic Studies and was honoured with the Best Paper award at the Global Ayurveda Festival 2023.
In addition to his research and clinical work, Dr. Rao serves as a reviewer for several esteemed national and international journals, including JRAS, JOA, and JACR. He is also involved in developing standard operating procedures for Ayurvedic practices and tools, ensuring the integration of traditional knowledge with contemporary research methodologies. Dr.Rao is committed to advancing evidence-based Ayurveda through systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and the development of validated clinical research methods.
