Dr. Santosh Shantilal Mane currently serves as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage, Hyderabad, under the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India, in New Delhi. He graduated with a BAMS from Ganga Education Society’s Ayurvedic Medical College of Shivaji University Kolhapur in 2000. He earned his M.D. (Ayurveda Vachaspati) in Samhita Speciality under the Department of Basic Principles, Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda, Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar in 2005. He was also conferred with a Ph.D. (Ayurveda Vidyavaridhi) in Saṃhitā by Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar, in 2010.
He has more than four years of academic career. He worked as a Lecture at Govt. Akhandanand Ayurveda College, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from 2008 to 2011, and Shubhadeep Ayurvedic Medical College, Indore, M.P. from 2005 to 2006.
He joined as a Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the Regional Research Centre of Ayurveda, Port Blair (formerly Ayurveda Tribal Health Care Research Project) Tribal Healthcare Research Project in February 2011. He worked as a Research Officer-In-Charge up to March 2017. He worked in ethnobotanical and tribal health care surveys of various ethnic and settler groups in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He acted as a Principal Investigator for the project entitled- ‘Medico-botanical Survey of Andaman and Nicobar Islands’ and contributed to a book- ‘Medico-Botany of Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Recent Study’ published by the CCRAS, New Delhi in 2016. He participated in the live Phone-In health programs at Doordarshan, Port Blair. He received an award as a Fellow of the Andaman Science Association in 2008.
From 2017, he worked as part of Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Patiala in the Collaborative Research Centre for Veterinary Ayurveda, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, Punjab. He acted as a Principal Investigator in the project funded by the CCRAS and NMPB, Ministry of AYUSH, to establish a Medicinal Plant Garden and Nursery at the GADVASU. He was involved in the clinical trials of Coded Ayurvedic formulations for simple indigestion, Milk augmentation, and Mastitis in ruminants. He participated in Pashu Palak Melas, farmer training programs, field visits, and worked as a collaborative scientist and associate scientist in the Farmer FIRST Project on “Integrated Approach for Livestock Development: Farmer’s context.” Later, at CARI, Patiala, from 2022, he served in various capacities and committees constituted for the Institute’s NABH accreditation.
Dr. Santosh has published one abstract book and co-authored three books and one book chapter. He participated in over 50 scientific conferences and presented 20 research papers. He has over 30 articles published in International, National, and Regional Journals. He was deputed for the 18th International Congress of the International Society for Ethno-Pharmacology, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 13-15 January 2018. From 2023 onwards, he has been working at the National Institute of Indian Medical Heritage, Hyderabad, and presently, he is involved in literary projects related to translation, transliteration, and publication of manuscripts and rare books. He serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for the CCRAS journals, JRAS and JIMH. He has completed 4 research projects as Principal investigator and 1 as Co-investigator. Currently supervising two IMR projects as PI and five as Co-I.
