Dr. Soma Narasimha Murthy at present, is working as Director (Institute) at Central ayurveda Research institute, Patiala under CCRAS, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India, New Delhi. His role as head of the institute is to coordinate the technical activities and research activities of the institute and administration wings of the institute.
He has completed BAMS from S.V Ayurvedic College, Tirupati, and MD (Ay) in Dravya Guna from Banaras Hindu University, and PhD in Dravya Guna from Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune.
DR S.N. MURTHY has joined in CCRAS as Assistant Research Officer during 1999, at THCRP unit of Jhabua, MP, and worked there till the end of 1999, subsequently transferred along with the unit itself to RRI, Nagpur during December 1999. During the tenure at THCRP, he has carried out the OPD activity at THCRP unit regularly, and has also compiled more than 500 folklore claims of that unit in proper format and submitted to CCRAS, Hqrs office after joining at RRI, NAGPUR. Furthermore, at RRI Nagpur, he has looked after MCRU and CHP units and conducted various tours to many villages and submitted the compliance reports to concerned authorities on time. He has also attended his regular OPD and IPD duties there and worked on the projects like Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis), Vyana bala Vaishamya (Hypertension), Pangu (Paraplegia), Pakshaghata (hemiplegia) etc. During this period at RRI, Nagpur, he has been promoted to Research Officer (Ay) during 2001.
He has worked at Ayurveda Research Unit, NIMHANS from 2002 on various projects related to Neuromuscular disorders and Mental disorders like Udwega, Vishada etc. He has also worked along with Neurology Department of NIMHANS on Muscular Dystrophy cases. He has prepared & submitted 2 EMR projects in collaboration with Neuro- Physiology Department of NIMHANS to CCRAS. During this period, he has participated and completed 3-month Panchakarma Training programme at CARI, Cheruthuruthy, Kerala. Further he has also worked at RRI, Bangalore for a brief period till 2006 as Research Officer (Ay), where he has been worked in OPD and IPD on different projects of CCRAS like Arsha (Hemorrhoids). He has also worked in Survey of medicinal plants (S M P Unit) unit of the institute and participated in various tours of survey on medicinal plants with the survey unit.
He has been promoted and posted at RRI, NAGPUR as Assistant Director (Ay), from 2006. During this period, he has completed and took over the newly constructed building of RRI, NAGPUR at Nandanwan Nagpur. He has started collaborative project on Anemia with Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Wardha and completed it. His team of officers have participated in various Arogya melas at different parts of the country including Jhansi and New Delhi etc to demonstrate the activities of leech application in various disorders etc.
He has also worked at CARI, Guwahati, Assam from 2008 to 2012 as head of the institute in the capacity of Asst Director (Ay). During this period, he has worked on various projects on Malaria at Tamalpur area, THCRP Project, and also an EMP project on digitalization of Medical Manuscripts available in North East region. Furthermore, he has also initiated and completed the construction work of a new building CARI, Guwahati. Along with DG, CCRAS, he has surveyed the Lumami, area of Central University Nagaland, for starting of a unit of CCRAS at Nagaland. He has also actively participated in starting an Ayurvedic Unit for the first time in Meghalaya state, under NEGRIMS Compound. During this term, he has conducted one state level training work shop for state level Ayurvedic Medical Officers of Assam state, at Guwahati. He has also conducted around 6-8 district level training workshops for Kshara-sutra and Anemia related disorders in various districts of Assam. He has also actively participated on behalf of CCRAS in more than 10 Arogya melas at various states of the North East region of India except Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
He has also worked at RARI, Pune as Asst Director (Ay). During this tenure he had started around 6 IMR projects in the institute on various subjects with different officers as PI’s of the projects. He had also initiated construction of a IN-VITRO cell line pharmacology laboratory in the Institute. He started the laboratory functioning with 2 IMR Projects on ANTI DIABETIC ACTIVITY and ANTI CANCER ACTIVITY Assessment at the newly constructed laboratories.
Furthermore, he has published many research papers on various subjects including Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Molecular Biology etc. in reputed journals.
During this period, he has completed his PhD at Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Pune.
Dr. S. N Murthy, as Asst. Director has worked at RARI, Jhansi from 2016 to 2020. During this period, he has developed state-of-the-art Ayush Pharmacy at RARI, JHANSI with all the facilities for preparation of Ayush medicines. He has also submitted the NRDR project at Ministry of AYUSH, and the same is sanctioned to RARI, Jhansi unit. He has initiated the project NRDR and under which, the construction of Museum and Laboratory was completed. During 2020, he had been posted at CARI, Patiala as DIRECTOR (Institute), and is continuing in the same capacity till date. Here at CARI, Patiala he has supervised various projects on COVID-19 related activities and outreach activities like AMHCP-SCSP and WCH projects. He has also started IPD unit here. During his tenure at CARI, Patiala, the unit has successfully acquired both NABL and NABH accreditation to the Institute.
To his credit he has more than 25 research publications, 5 research articles/ chapters, one monograph etc. in various reputed journals.
