Dr.V Rama Rao

Dr. V Rama Rao is currently working as Research Officer (Botany), Central Ayurveda Research Centre (CARI), Bengaluru. His roles and responsibilities mainly include in-charge of Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit, Co-coordinator of MPR-MEBS focus group.

He completed his M.Sc. (Botany) degree from Nagarjuna University, Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) and Ph.D. (Botany) degree from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar (Gujarat). He started his career as Senior Research Fellow at ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Anand (Gujarat) in the year 2002, having experience in cultivation and development of medicinal and aromatic plants gardens, forest field exploration and documentation from different geographical zones of India such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, etc.

He joined the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH in the year 2009, as Research Officer (Botany) at Central Ayurveda Research Centre (CARI), Bengaluru. His research mainly focused on conducting medico ethno botanical survey tours in various geographical regions of Karnataka, collection and supply of authentic raw plant material for CCRAS peripheral institutes, field botanical identification, crude drug authentication, creation of demonstrative medicinal plants garden, etc. He contributed for the development of a herbal garden while working at ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Anand, Gujarat.

He has been actively involved in IMR/EMR/Collaborative Research projects as Principal Investigator/Co-Investigator viz completed: 09 projects& on-going: 03 projects.

He has participated in various training programmes such as Classical and Modern Methods in plant systematics, Drug discovery and Development, Emerging Trends in Research and Health Care, Implementation of NABH standards; Documentation and Validation of LHT, Miyawaki Forest Development, etc. He was one of the delegations to the Janadriyah Festival, 2018 held at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, organized AYUSH stall during 7-12 February 2018.

He has published about 55 research/review articles in International/National Journals, 01 Book Chapters in International Books; contributed for publication of few books in the area of medicinal plants research. Additionally, he has also presented more than 30 scientific papers in National Seminar/Conference/ Workshops and attended more than 50 Seminar/Workshops/Professional meetings. He reviewed about 20 research/review articles for International /National Journals.
