Dr. Sulochana Ganapati Bhat is presently working as Assistant Director Incharge of Central Ayurveda Research Institute, Bengaluru and Regional Ayurveda Research Centre for Mineral and Marine Medicinal Resources (RARIM&MMR), under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of Ayush, Govt. of India.She is a post graduate in Ayurveda from Govt. Ayurveda Mediccal College, Bengaluru and had worked as a lecturer in Gomantak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre Goa as well as in Indian Institute of Ayurvedic Medicine and Research Bengaluru before joining CCRAS in 2001.
In 34 years of professional career, she has handled about 60 Research projects in collaboration with reputed organisations, published more than 100 research articles, contributed in books andParticipated in several scientific events in India and abroad and presented papers.She has received WHO fellowship during 2007 for a programme on health system management at NIHFW under Ministry of Health & FW,Govt of India. She was involved in research management and policy making during her posting in CCRAS headquarters and Ministry of AYUSH, New Delhi. She had a short stint at NIMHANS Bengaluru and RRAP-CARI Mumbai also. As Nodal Officer for Ayushman Bharat in the Ministry of AYUSH shehas contributed in obtaining cabinet approval ofa scheme for establishment of Ayush Health & Wellness Centres (Ayushman Bharat Arogya Mandira) all over India under the National Ayush Mission.
She was principal investigator of RCH project at Himachal Pradesh jointly implemented with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), where in 17 new Ayurveda formulations were developed and four of them are handed over to the industry for commercialisation.Based on this experience, a larger project was rolled out in the Gadchiroli district of Maharastra. Her successful collaboration as Principal Investor with department of orthopaedics, Safdarjung hospital, New Delhi in osteoarthritis funded by the WHO in 2005-2007 formed the basis for an international level trial with Charitie University Germany. She has contributed in the areas such development of automated Kshara Sutra preparation in collaboration with IIT Delhi, integrated management ofFilariasis etc. Presently she is principal Investigator in Centre of Excellence scheme awarded to CARI Bengaluru and also a collaborating investigator in the Centre of Excellence scheme of IISc Bengaluru. A project entitled “Formulations and product development of Ayurveda recipes and nutritional evaluation of selected products” successfully underway at CSIR-CFTRI, Mysore is her brain child. Her efforts in managing research grants and obtaining CSR funding from philanthropic organisations helped in the upgradation of the institute with a NABH and NABL accreditation. She is actively working in the committees in Ayush, ICMR, NHSRC, UGC, Karnataka state Ayush department and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
Her areas of interest mainly are public health and integrative medicine.
