About the Institute
Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Nagpur, is one of the peripheral institutes of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. This Institute is situated in the centre of India at Nagpur. The institute was established as a Regional Research Centre (Ayurveda) in 1972, with the Survey of Medicinal Plants Unit (SMPU) and Mobile Clinical Research Unit (MCRU). Afterward, this centre was upgraded to Regional Research Institute (Ayurveda) in 1999, and it worked with SMPU, THCRP, and Clinical Research at OPD and IPD levels. Later, in June 2006, this Institute was shifted to its own building with the premises of 7806 Sq. Mt. In 2016, this institute was renamed ‘Regional Ayurveda Research Institute for Mother & Child Health.’ On 22nd Dec 2020, this institute was recently renamed ‘Regional Ayurveda Research Institute’. The Institute hospital is NABH accredited and has a 16-bed IPD, and the institute’s laboratory is NABL accredited.

Vision
To develop scientific evidence in Clinical Research on mother and child health care, focusing on chronic diseases and lifestyle diseases.
Mission
- To develop this peripheral institute of CCRAS into a model research institute for undertaking, coordinating, and promoting clinical research in Ayurveda.
- To strengthen research and treatment in Ayurveda by utilizing its classical treatment procedures, viz. Panchkarma, Ksharsutra, Raktamokshana, Agnikarma & Uttarbasti.
- To support diagnosis with advanced technology using Pathological, biochemical and radiological investigations.

- Collaborative project under AYUSH-WCD collaboration entitled Anemia control among adolescent girls through Ayurveda interventions in the five districts under Mission Utkarsh.
- General health screening with a special focus on Tuberculosis, Anemia, Hemoglobinopathies, Malnutrition, and Ayurveda interventions for better health outcomes in the students of Ekalavya Modern Residential Schools (EMRS) functioning under M/o Tribal affairs.
- Assessment of acceptability of the Comprehensive Ayurveda-based healthcare approach in the tribal community and the effectiveness of individualized healthcare-Cluster randomized study under the THCRP program.
- Acceptability of the Comprehensive Ayurveda-based health care approach in the community and effectiveness of individualized health care – Cluster-randomized study under the AMHCP-SCSP program.
Achievements
- NABH accreditation was obtained for the Hospital on 12.05.2022.
- NABL accreditation was obtained for pathology and biochemistry labs on 30.05.2023.
- The institute is recognized for PhD from Datta Meghe, deemed to be a university at Wardha, Maharastra.
- The institute acknowledged for Rajbhasha Karyanvayan in 2021-22 and honored with
Shield and Certificate of 3 rd Prize during 16 th half yearly meeting of Rajbhasha
Karyanvayan Samiti (Ka-I) by NARAKAS, Nagpur. - The Central Ethics Committee of CCRAS is also registered under DHR (Department of Health Research), ICMR.
