V-MARMACIKITSA BOOK & CERTIFICATE COURSE ON MARMACIKITSA
Marmacikitsā is one among the various non-pharmacological therapies that have a vital place in Āyurveda. It is based on a deep understanding of the design and workings of the human body, which utilizes multiple points or areas of the body for preventive and therapeutic health benefits, using various manipulative techniques for complex procedures. The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences has taken initiatives wherein such knowledge, both theoretical and applied, was documented by various experts of Marmacikitsā and compiled to preserve this knowledge for future generations and bring it to the mainstream of Āyurveda clinical practice. The documentation has been brought out as a publication entitled “Marmacikitsā – Basic Tenets in Ayurveda and Therapeutic Approaches.” To mainstream this ancient science and impart proper training to Ayurveda doctors, adequate training is essential. Since many techniques/methods/procedures used in Marmacikitsā can cause severe potential harm if done by untrained persons, these techniques should be practiced only after proper training under an expert practitioner. Proper hands-on training under the supervision of field experts is required for the appropriate execution of techniques/methods/procedures of Marmacikitsā. Also, numerous variations among the various traditions must be addressed to avoid confusion for the student. A few Marma points’ manipulation has more potential harm than benefits, which needs to be adequately conveyed to the student. With these objectives, a training course of one month duration for graduates of Ayurveda has been developed, covering the theoretical and practical aspects of Marmacikitsā.
